I now have installed DJGCC on my Win2K box, and tried compiling the ODBC driver... which is screaming for header files that are not present on my system. I know that to run Linux, you need a C++ diploma from Bell Labs and Bjarne S, but it generally is not a pre-requisite for Windows...
Sorry about the rant, but I needed to let of steam... Coming from a Windows background, it is very difficult to come to grips with software that has to be compiled before use, and I stopped programming in C several years ago, so I am more than a bit rusty, and I depend on pre-compiled modules to get the job done. The problem is that now I need the performance that AOLServer gives, and the TCL doc is great compared to Apache, but it is frigging frustrating to find that anything more complex that HTML hosting is difficult if you do not have the compiler, libs, headers, FTP access and time... I currenty have very little of the above mentioned ressources! So far the only pre-compiled windows files in existance for AOLserver is AOLServer 3.4 Installer and Dossy's MySQL driver (which does not like 3.4 too much :) Is there any gentle soul out there who has a dev environment who can compile (or who has already compiled) any other AOLServer module for the latest AOLServer under Windows? If so, I would not mind putting together a web page to host a central library of compiled Windows modules for AOLServer on one of my web pages... All contributions accepted, and with a bit of luck, I can put off moving to TclHttpd or Apache's ModTcld, and give any other users stuck under Windows a bit of extra support! Cheers, Daniel
