We're using AOLserver 3.2 with nsopenssl 1.1c (also tried 2.0), and have SSL working fine for all browsers except MS Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x on Windows 98 machines.
For IE 5.x/6.x on Win98, a "The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error" error is displayed for https requests. These requests never actually get to the server (there are no signs of them in the server's access log). Disabling SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 (ie, only having SSL 2.0 enabled) in the browser settings solves this problem; however keeping all protocols enabled in the browser and forcing nsopenssl to only use the SSLv2 protocol does not have the same effect, and the error persists in that setup. If you have any insight into this issue, and suggestions on how to fix it, we'd love to hear them. Thanks, Nuno Santos
