Hi all,

Remember my emergency a few weeks ago where we moved an nsd 2.3.3 site onto
Redhat 7.2 and it blew up on me? We did a hasty upgrade to nsd 3.3+ad13 and
it's running much better now, with one glaring exception - over time,
connections to Oracle start dying:

oracle 674 670 1 11:29 ? 00:00:19 [oracle <defunct>]

I have checked the site error log and found nothing significant; I have
also checked Oracle's alert logs and found nothing. These defunct
connections all go away if nsd is restarted. They don't prevent the site
from working, but users start waiting longer and longer for database
connections, meaning the pages which need handles are slow, while static
pages are still fast.

The Oracle driver is version 2.6, according to it's version.h. This site
contains a lot of LOB data, large images and long documents, all of which
are stored in the database, so there are more large up- and down-loads than
the average site.

Has anyone seen this and figured out the cause, and if not can anyone
suggest ways of figuring out what's going on ?

thanks,

janine
