There is quite a few patches installed on that version (ad13) that Arsdigita made for ACS and the OpenACS group currently uses it. Many of the patches for internation support, please the *BSD exec patch is added, and some security patches have been added. Many of the patches are to the tcl code. } I did try to hack up Tcl 8.4.1 the way 8.3.2 was hacked for AOLserver } 3.3 (+ad13, although I doubt that matters in this context). I failed } miserably. I'm sure it would. } Back in July, Roberto Mello reported that his AOLserver 3.3+ad13 w/ } Tcl 8.4b1 crashed several times while testing, but I don't know how he } built it. } } I'll probably try AOLserver 3.5 next, but it would be nice to know if } and how older versions of AOLserver can be made to work with Tcl 8.4. I've tried to forward port some of the internationization patches forward, but haven't had time to complete it. Many people have reported success using AOLserver 3.51 and OpenACS (without international support) but for many of the current OpenACS users, lacking that support is not an option. Also, OpenACS went through quite a bit of quick development when aD moved to java and then went away that a decision was made to maintain the current aD patched AOLserver to continue development and keep at least the server a constant. With the pending release of OpenACS 4.6, examining what would be require of AOLserver so OpenACS could be used with a stock AOLserver distribution should, and I believe, will be examined. I'm currently testing http://uptime.openacs.org on a stock AOLserver 3.5.1 using TCL 8.4.1 with good results and should be migrating the server in the next few weeks. I can put all the patches applied to the current AOLserver+ad13 OpenACS distribution on a site some where if some of the good AOLserver maintainers want to take a look at them, or feel free to contact me off the list.
