I have been wondering why this list doesn't use the RFC 2369 headers I've
seen used by other lists. That would deflate at least a few of the
concerns I saw discussed earlier ...

On the SWIG list, which uses mailman, the headers with List-XXX:  (see
below) actually let me see in PINE that there is list management
information, including how to unsubscribe, name of the list, archive
address, etc.

Even farther below, I include the screen created by pine when you
follow the link that says 'this message contains list information' ...

The combination really works well when the client and server both use
this: send the info, client uses those headers to manage subscriptions...

For example, I am on the SWIG list and here is a header:

participate in an email list. An email list is
represented by a single email address that users sharing a common interest
can send messages to (known as posting) which
are then redistributed to all members of the list (sometimes after review
by a moderator).
