The idea was to have standalone code segments, so that if a code segment has an error, the remainder of the page can still be rendered. I suggested an implementation strategy a while ago for allowing the code style in your example, with the error-tolerance of the current ADP system. Jim Davidson seemed to agree that it was a good idea, so perhaps it will be implemented in a future release. I.
