I can (and will) certainly try that, but the odd thing about it is that
one of these sites is considerably less busy than the other, but if
anything it reports more of these outages.   Which is why it didn't
occur to me to check these numbers in the first place.

gdb is probably premature at this point.  Do you have the control port
enabled on these servers?

No, I don't, but I can enable it. It has been a long time since I last used a control port, so I might be back asking about that, but I'll RTFM first. ;)
