Port 80 is a privileged port, so you'll have to start the server as root. After it binds to the port, it will change users and continue running as user "aollls".

You'll also want to add the following flag to ensure the server pre-binds correctly:

-b <address>:80

If you don't have root access, try running on a port higher then 1024. Hope this helps!

Hello,

I am new to aol server.

I have setup AOL Server 4.0.10 on Solaris 5.8.

The problem I'm having is whenever I try to run the server on port 80, it gives me a Permission denied error. I am trying to run the server as a non-root user.

Here is the command that I run:

exec /usr/local/aolserver/bin/nsd -u aollls -g aol -t /export/home/aollls/conf/lls3.tcl

I have also tried to use the -b option, but that does not work either.

Do I have to do anything special on the OS to allow the user "aollls" to run the server on a priviledged port?
