In general, I think the Apache docs are aimed at a user who is already experienced with computers and with the Internet. This is especially true of the module docs, which are the "reference" part of the documentation. I believe that it many cases they are too terse. However, I don't think we want these docs to be explaining basic internet concepts. We have also started (mostly with contributions from Rich Bowen) a set of "tutorials" which are aimed at a slightly more novice user. I hope this will expand in the future. As far as the question at hand: should I be using terms like "scheme" without defining them? I'm really not sure. I hope that giving the example makes things clear even for people who don't understand the terms. I thought of referencing the RFC which really defines URL, but I figured that this would make things even more obscure. Any other opinions?
