It appears that I did not understand the big picture...

If RH's objective is to move non-enterprise customers off of 'free' or low
cost RH releases over to Fedora, then this could have far-reaching
implications for those of us used to and accustomed to the RH releases with
the ancillary benefits (documentation, updates, patches, etc.) I for one
don't have a problem paying 50 or 60 bucks for a work station RH release,
but I'm not going to pay $180 (their asking price for Intel RH 9.0 work
station). I'll go to another distribution.

This strategy really doesn't surprise me. RH's business model was bound to
change; indeed a business that doesn't keep moving is going to be extinct in
short order. I'm just sorry that the party seems to be over -- it's 11 PM
and the DJ just left :-(

The 5 year life cycle is for their Enterprise products that run in the
thousands of dollars. Take a look at fedora.redhat.com to see how they are
replacing the versions we are used to using. Notice the didn't come out
with a 10.0.

I understand all products have a life cycle. I have upgraded a lot over the
years. But have always moved to another stable platform. In reading Fedora
documentation, I'm not convinced we will see as much stability in Fedora, as
it's NOT made for a production environment. While I can understand a
company needs to make money, I'm hoping they won't forget the people that
made RedHat the leading Linux distribution..
