That IS good because this RedHat thing I think took us a little by surprise.

Curious though what your concerns about Mandrake are. Is it stability or something else?

It might be possible to just have a machine or 2 that you subscribe and then just collect the RPMS and make your own internal repository for all your servers. Technically they are selling the service and they can't own the packages. I don't think there is any way they can have protection from people doing that. By the same token since they are providing an important service it is important to give them some money.. whatever the service is worth to you... I'm going to probably investigate paying for like 4 servers and using it on a few others and see how legal it is to do.

Mandrake may be a good path to take. I'm still not 100% sold on it. Progeny certainly gives us a way to stick to RH until you are ready to switch.

That's great. Sort of. I have 40 machines. Spend and extra $200 per month or gradually switch to Mandrake? You know what I am going to do.

From /. just now...

In a previous story it was noted that Progeny would offer support to Red Hat 7.2 and 7.3 customers facing an End of Life deadline of 31 December 2003. Progeny has updated their 'transitional software' offerings to include support for Red Hat 8.0 and 9 for $5 per month, per machine. This is great news for IT folks who are faced with the choice of a new OS or abandoned 1-year-old software
