Hi all,

I've wanted to play with Fedora before I move my RH 8.0 box to something
else. This situation is driving me nuts and if I wasn't so cheap, I'd throw
my newly acquired hand-me-down Presario test box in the garbage. Here's the
scoop:

The box: Presario 2266 (a blazing Cyrix CPU at ~300 MHz) with 128 Mbyte of
ram, 4 gig ide drive, NIC, onboard SIS video, CDROM, etc.

The problem: Yarrow iso images one and two load and run fine. The install
is about 5 minutes from finishing when it asks for disk 3. I pop disk 3 in
and I get a bad media report so the install bombs there. (I let the install
program partition the hard drive automatically.)

Disk 3 fails the media check test (as do another 6 or 8 that I burned).

Okay, time to burn another disk. One more then another, then another, then
a fresh download of disk 3 iso, then burn another, it fails, go to store and
buy a spindle of premium cdroms, burn another and it fails.

Next step was to see if minimum install of Fedora works - yup.. runs fine.
Only disk 1 and maybe 2 was used.

Next I downloaded and burned RH 9.0 and it loaded and ran fine. It is
running on the box now, slowly but it runs. I can mount the intractable
Fedora disk 3 and it can be browsed successfully.

Okay - let's try an upgrade from RH 9.0 to Fedora. No go (it never gets to
disk 3). Reports that there isn't enough space in /usr or some directory
and I don't want to manually try to repartition.

Can anybody think of anything I haven't tried?

Thanks for reading this,

John Canfield
