If I am not mistaken, that’s a syntax error, you need to put a space somewhere in that command, or take a space out.

Does "linux" resolve to that machine? Also look in /var/log/httpd/error_log and access_log to see what they say at the time you get that error.

Make sure in httpd.conf that any "AllowOverride" are set to "All" instead of "None"... could that be it?

Look in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf for "ServerName" and see if it has a "#" before it. If it does remove the "#" and put the servers name in after... like..
