I am seriously (but not making any promises) interested in
contributing and porting APE to the windows platform.

I'm sure I'm one of many people that have "appeared", make this claim
and then "dissapear" - I'm not claiming I could be any different.

Me: I'm a programmer that has 19 years of professional experience in
the field, started on Apple II+ using basic, moved to DOS and Borland
Turbo Pascal, used Aston-Tate DBase II, custom languages, then Oracle,
a bit of C++ (very limited) and now I use the .NET platform.

If I'm going to give this a shot I want to be sure that folks back me
up and will be ready to answer *a lot* of questions in understanding
APE. The Win32 API is not linux Unix/Linux and just to start unistd.h
doesn't even exist on Windows so a lot of work has to be done and some
changes will have to be made.

This is what I mean when I use the word support: People have to see
this as a positive thing and want to see it happen. If people are 50%
committed then this will fail and my chances of dissappearing will
exponentially increase.

There is another hurdle and I want people to know this up-front: As
a .NET programmer there would be a lot of advantages for me to compile
APE using the .NET platform - this does not mean that I have to
rewrite any code to C# of VB, quite the opposite - the .NET compiler
will usually be able to take C/C++ code and compile it in MSIL for use
by the .NET engine. I want (I *need*) something like the APE server to
support back/forth .NET and Win32 calls for this to be usefull on
Windows.

So, I've been up-front with my goals and intentions - the answer is up
to you folks and let me know if this works or not. I would be porting
APE as a Windows Service (Windows Server) which runs in the Service
Control Manager and this would not be the first time I do this - it
would be the first time in over 13 years that I touch C/C++ however
and while I can read most of the syntax I will need help to understand
the whys/hows of APE

Ah oui, je parle francais aussi
