Ok got the answer thanks to Manuel (on IRC)

Had to customize nickname.js. Currently, nickname.js only updates the
property 'name' from the received data
so if we do:
ape.start({name:'xyz',something:'else'})
then only the name property is set in the user, as follows (see
nickname.js):
cmd.user.setProperty('name', params.name);

We need to add whatever other properties we need to update here.
