I read some time ago, that ape should be rewritten from scratch. As I looked for comet servers throughout the last weeks, I think I ape is a very good opensource project to be used in our project.
But as I heard it should be rewritten I became a bit skeptical, as this means time, an new bugs etc. There for my suggestion would be, to base ape on node.js. As an issue for us is the lose interoperability of ape with other software, for instance: redis, memcache, postgresql and gearman.
