I'm not using Firebug, I'm using the Webdeveloper toolbar. I'm pretty sure this is not a bug in Firebug/Webdeveloper toolbar, but a real Javascript error.
We are also facing the problem that on some page loads, APE just doesn't work. This really happens at random, so hard to debug/fix.
