I have no idea what platform the APE binaries were built on but a symbol (scramble) was referenced that most platforms do not seem to have. Your best bet is to get the APE source (check out from GIT) and build for your platform. Lots of people have had problems getting MySQL working even when they do that. I have APE working well with MySQL using GIT version 1.1.0 -- we've had no problems since we moved to that release but it is older so YMMV. We are on Redhat/CentOS 6 (64-bit) with MySQL 5.6.
