I built a custom client framework for APE and from that experience I learned that the CLOSE raw is sent when the APE server closes/terminates the connection on protocols such as long polling and JSONP. Which is normal for these protocols.
For example the client framework opens a long polling connection #1 that will wait for a response from the server, lets say that if in 20 seconds the server has not responded yet the client framework will open another connection which will also live for 20 seconds or until response is received. The APE server will only hold a single connection from the same session and frequency. In short it will hold a single connection per browser tab. So when connection #2 is stablished the connection #1 receives its shutdown response and that response is the CLOSE raw.
