Hey,

This is most likely a proxy issue like Luis suggests. I had a similar issue
with my hosting provider because they use nginx proxy servers that did not
supported websockets. My solution was to make the custom application port
open/public. Within the year they upgraded to a nginx version that is
suppose to support websocket connections but I have not tried it yet.

The only pros I see to using a proxy server rather than a direct connection
to APE is if the proxy provides a  secure TLS connection.
