Dear Bernhard, just a brief comment on your message about word order in Esperanto, which raises a question (below). You said:
>when translating >to French (for instance) the position of the different words will >become important. In Esperanto, the word order is reasonably free (more than French, English, or even Italian), but nonetheless it is important as well. I recall your nice example: Belle Marquise, vos beaux yeux me font mourir d'amour" : 1. Bela Markizino, viaj belaj okuloj mortigas min de amo 2. De amo mortigas min bela Markizino, viaj belaj okuloj 3. Viaj belaj okuloj de amo, bela Markizino min mortigas (1) is the most faithful translation, as the unmarked word order in Esperanto is SVO. That means, that (2) marks "amo" (love), with this additional meaning, more or less: 2. It's your love that kills me, Belle Marquise, not your beautiful eyes. while (3) on the contrary marks "viaj belaj okuloj", and hence, the additional meaning would be something like: 3. Your beautiful eyes [of love] kills me, Belle Marquise, in particular And now a question for everybody. Does Apertium "understand" word order in the different language pairs so to take into account such nuances in translation? Other simple examples: 4a-en. Summer is hot. 4b-en. It's hot, this summer. 4a-eo. Somero varmegas. 4b-eo. Varmegas la somero. 4a-it. L'estate e' caldissima. 4b-it. E' proprio caldissima, questa estate.
