Hello Apertiumers,

As you might or might not know, I'm working on a visual transfer rule editor
application as part of Google's Summer of Code program under the surveillance
of my great mentor Jim. Today I'm pleased to announce the first preview release
of apertium-visruled! Of course this is a very early snapshot and (hopefully)
not indicative of the quality of the final software.

This release supports Linux and Windows. There are no binaries supplied for
either platform at this point, but you can grab the source tarball from here.
To compile the application you will need the Qt 4 development kit (visruled is
not compatible with Qt 5!)

BUILDING ON LINUX

cd /path/to/extracted/sources
qmake
make
sudo make install

NOTE: On Linux, visruled *must* be installed to work properly

BUILDING ON WINDOWS

Compiling on Windows from the command line is a massive pain. I advise that you
install the latest release of Qt Creator, and build the program using that.
Choose Open project>apertium-visruled.pro. You may need to specify the
location of your Qt installation before you can compile with Creator.

NOTE: On Windows, visruled *can not* be installed and must be run from the root
of the build directory to work properly. If you're unsure, just use the big
green "Run" button in Qt Creator

KNOWN ISSUES:
- The install locations can't be configured
- Attributes don't display right after being inserted. Workaround: add/delete a
box somewhere on the diagram
- No confirmation is required to quit when there are unsaved files open
- The color scheme is not colorblind-friendly
- In the context menu, the real tag and attribute names are displayed, not the
user-friendly substitutes

Feedback welcome!

Cheers,
Boldizsár
