Dear Apertium members,

My name is Beknazar Abdikamalov and currently studying Computer Science
[undergrad]. My native language is Karakalpak [Kaa] and I know Kazakh
language on a good level too, mainly due to their similarity.

<Reason of this email>
I would like to participate in Google Summer of Code to work on the project
of adopting language pairs Kazakh <-> Karakalpak which is in the incubator
section.

<Skills>
 - Knowledge on Python and XML.
 - Good level on languages of the pair Kaz <-> Kaa (native).

<Rough plan>
 - Since the transducer for Kazakh language is on production state with
high (~90.8 %) coverage and Kazakh is much similar with Karakalpak
language, I believe I can easily make a transducer for Karakalpak language
as well with similar coverage level. In addition, I have made a project:
online Russian <-> Karakalpak dictionary, therefore I have an access to the
biggest Karakalpak language dictionary which I am going to use it here.
 - When it comes to developing transfer rules, I am going to carefully
learn the kaz <-> tat language [another Turkic-group pair] transfer rules
and adopt from it.

Still, I am on the stage of learning the Apertium system by going through
the guides on wiki pages. After that stage, I am going to give more formal
and specific proposal.

For now, I would appreciate any suggestions or guides.

Best regards,
Abdikamalov Beknazar
