Hello Francis,

I am very much interested in the project named "Improving support for
non-standard text input". I attempted the coding challenges to get a
clearer idea of the project and spent a couple of days in understanding the
problem statement and doing background research. However, I realize there
is still a lot to be done in the next 2 days to reach the requisite mark.

This
doc<https://docs.google.com/a/iiitd.ac.in/document/d/1vDv2L1pZs2Xk3vJ0vsR8mfxEGYHsoMdDjz5H3EQgdC8/edit>contains
the results for the challenges listed on the project web-page:
1. A small test corpus of non-standard text input for Twitter and Youtube
2. Translated text from part 1 above
3. Non-standard features that affect translation quality
4. Proposed solutions for problems enumerated in 3rd point.

The most relevant paper from the literature review is also given in the
same doc. I can do a more comprehensive study with some guidance about the
papers/articles I should read and whether there were some crucial
areas/papers/articles that I missed.

I understand that this is a very popular project and a number of people are
interested in devoting their time to it. I hope that is not a deterrent
here. I have prior experience with language modeling - I did my B.Tech
Project on the Application of Latent Dirichlet Allocation on Software Issue
Tracking Systems where I worked primarily in Java and partly in Scala. I am
fairly comfortable with Python and have some experience in web-development
using python frameworks(Flask and Django). I also studied Introduction to
Intelligent Systems, Statistical Computation, Information Retrieval and
Collaborative Systems courses. Quite often, I digress during my everyday
net surfing trying to locate the linguistic underpinnings of words, which
is a testament to my interest in this field. I am fluent in English and
Hindi and can understand, read and write Punjabi.

I request you to guide me through the additional tasks to be accomplished
and the proposal writing process. I plan on devoting the next 2 days solely
to this.

Hoping for a prompt response.

Regards,
Ayushi Aggarwal
