I had a thought that is semi-related to that. It would be interesting
to push apertium into the free software desktop space - GNOME/KDE etc.
Being able to right-click a piece of English text on a
partially-translated application or some email/chat/etc text you
received and get an understandable text in your own language could be
very useful. There is a lot of expertise with dbus in the free desktop
space which could solve that part of the problem if approached right.
Having an OPW (or GSoC) student working on this might be a great way
to get this effort bootstrapped.
