--- Begin Message --- [ The Productivity Commission remains a stronghold of neo-classical economics, incapable of acknowledging the significance of either political economics or information ecoomics.

[ It's now grasping the Trump-gifted opportunity to block the possibility of regulation impeding the claimed magic of AI.

[ The irony is that there *is* no meaninfgul regulation of AI, and the reason that the promised productivity gains aren't being achieved arises from other factors entirely.

[ As regards the much-feted EU AI Act, "compliance obligations will be readily avoided by the large majority of providers and deployers of AI systems. The negative impacts are far more likely to arise from the failure of the EU and its member-nations to exercise control over harmful impacts, leading to public distrust, thereby creating the risk of public backlash, and of non-adoption and even abandonment of technologies which, with appropriate care, have benefits to offer".

[ I'd very much welcome critique of this analysis:

Australia’s regulatory settings for artificial intelligence will go under the microscope for the second time in two years as part of a series of inquiries aimed at turning around the country’s sluggish productivity.

As the government re-sets its sights on the benefits of the technology, the Productivity Commission on Monday flagged AI as one of 15 productivity drivers deserving of further exploration.

The commission will spend at least the next six months reviewing whether existing regulation remains “fit-for-purpose in respect of AI technology” and “what problems or shortfalls there are, if any”.
