The words were dutifully echoed on TV, radio and in print. I heard the tape, you heard the tape. Did you hear him say anything about the highest bidder? They reported Jesse Jr was offered the seat for $5 million. The going price, according to the media chorus. I didn't hear that tape either. Did you? What I heard him complain about was "they" weren't offering him anything. He wasn't even consulted; he felt snubbed. Or, in Chgo political lingo, disrespected. He said it was his decision to make and it was "gold". He complained that they should give him something, anything, a "cushy job" for his wife, for instance. (I'm paraphrasing.) Do you see the difference? The media was repeating talking points written by the prosecutor, someone like a staff member on the Kennedy public relations dept or maybe Axlerod. The media had no other source from which they could all draw the same "facts" - $5 mil & highest bidder. I'll bet a dollar to a donut, the words "highest bidder" and "$5 million" never make it into the court room. I'll bet those words were faxed to them from a democratic operative that was pissed at him for not going along with the Party's program and appointing the person they had chosen, no questions asked. I could be wrong, but I'd put up my educated guess against their political propaganda any day of the week. Any takers?
