Rick / Sharon

I see an awful lot here, on The Net, that indicate to me general levels
of concern varying from apprehension through disappointment,
frustration and fear, to anger and near panic, I also see lots of
finger-pointing accusations at what usually seem selected villains, or
results, or symptoms rather that root causes and never yet what I'd consider
a realistic approach to a solution.

Allow me to offer, from my eighty-five years perspective, including very
clear memories of The Thirties Depression, participation in one war and
involvement in two more, what I consider is a fair problem definition along
with cause and responsibility, plus what I believe to be a reasonable,
doable-in-the-Real-World approach to a solution.

The cause of our present situation is the failure of Our Congress to do
its duty according to the INTENT of Our Constitution. It may be fairly
argued that such failure was a direct result of us citizen/voters who
continuously allowed, through a variety of excuses and some reasons, such
unsatisfactory performance to continue.

Our Congress was given all the authority, means and stature needed to
investigate, be aware of, evaluate, and/or, take whatever action necessary,
to prevent/correct any or all reasonably possible problems of our society.
But normal human weakness interfered, for all the usual excuses and a few
reasons, and the attitudes that nurtured Our Problems were allowed to fester
and grow like a monumental cancer. (One of the major contributors, I
believe, was the growth of strength of commitment and allegiance to a
political party that impacted commitment to Country- - - an evil Our
Founding Fathers tried to warn us of.)

In their great wisdom, Our Founding Fathers gave us, the Voting
Citizens, all the power we might ever need to control Our Congress. We can
vote them in or out. It is our DUTY, every two years, to assign a
'performance rating' such as SATISFACTORY or UNSATISFACTORY to Congressional
Incumbents by our vote Especially for the last several decades, we have
woefully neglected that responsibility, responding rather, to SELECTED
information released from the effected office instead of noticing any
deteriorating general social conditions, therefore, assigning
a 'Satisfactory' performance appraisal by voting him/her back into office.
By doing so, we enable the continuing of what, in light of the steadily
deteriorating social conditions of the last decades, is UNSATISFACTORY
performance of our Congressional Members.

So it seems to me that the obvious route to fixing our current dilemma,
is, first, to let ALL congressional Members know that we are NOT satisfied
with their performance and that we intend to VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS in '10
and are prepared to repeat the process in '12 UNLESS we see very noticeable
improvement! So, if they'd like to keep their positions, they must begin to
consider us, The Voters, before any consideration of Party Loyalty or other
factors..

We should also insist on more 'light' on their daily activities. They
work for us and we have a RIGHT to know how they spend their time and OUR
money. Increased controls of arbitrary 'classification' must also be
required.

    Ray

I share your concern, Sharon. Have you attended any Tea Parties yet?
Has anybody on this list gone to a Tea Party?
Don't know how effective that might be but choices are few and far between.

   Hi There..

As I'm sure you know, GIVE has already passed the house and will be voted
for in the senate tomorrow. This has been totally sneaked in without the
American public knowing it.
It's an outrage...and Amendment 49 is even worse.
Do you have info on these? It's too late to stop it , I fear, although I
have spent this entire day reaching as many people as I can about it.
