** ** ** *NEW ICE CREAM* This was forwarded to me by a New & Views reader. Not sure who the original author is, but boy did he or she nail this one… *“Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream has introduced a new flavor in honor of the 44th President of the United States: Barocky Road.* ** *“Barocky Road is a blend of half vanilla, half chocolate, and surrounded by nuts and flakes. The vanilla portion of the mix is not openly advertised and usually denied as an ingredient. The nuts and flakes are all very bitter and hard to swallow. The cost is $100 per scoop.* ** *“When purchased it will be presented to you in a large beautiful cone, but then the ice cream is taken away and given to the person in line behind you. Thus you are left with an empty wallet, no change, holding an empty cone, with no hope of getting any ice cream.”* *CARTER II: THE REVENGE* “I cannot believe what I heard today. President Obama is disarming America. Never before has a president so ravaged the military at a time of war.” *- Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) on Defense Secretary Gates’ defense cuts which were announced on Monday* ** *NOT ENOUGH RAPTORS* “Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates delivered a benchmark speech today and unveiled sweeping changes in both the weapons systems being pursued and the budgetary process. . . . Debates on the budget by the Congress and Secretary of Defense will be a long gone exigency in issues of life and death. “And considering air power, we have already weighed in on the F-22. It is far superior to the F-35 and is simply needed in order to ensure air superiority into the future. Expensive, sure. But Gates is stopping at 187 F-22s, plus about four more. We probably need more.” - *Herschel Smith, The Captain’s Journal, 4/6/09* ** *GUTTING DEFENSE* “In the 1990s, defense cuts helped pay for increased domestic spending, and that is true today. . . . The termination of the F-22 Raptor program at just 187 aircraft inevitably will call U.S. air supremacy -- the salient feature, since World War II, of the American way of war -- into question. “The need for these sophisticated, stealthy, radar-evading planes is already apparent. During Russia's invasion of Georgia, U.S. commanders wanted to fly unmanned surveillance aircraft over the region, and requested that F-22s sanitize the skies so that the slow-moving drones would be protected from Russian fighters or air defenses. When the F-22s were not made available, likely for fear of provoking Moscow, the reconnaissance flights were canceled. “As the air-defense and air-combat capabilities of other nations, most notably China, increase, the demand for F-22s would likewise rise. And the Air Force will have to manage this small fleet of Raptors over 30 years. Compare that number with the 660 F-15s flying today, but which are literally falling apart at the seams from age and use. The F-22 is not merely a replacement for the F-15; it also performs the functions of electronic warfare and other support aircraft.” *- Thomas Donnelly and Gary Schmitt of the American Enterprise Institute, Wall Street Journal, 4/8/09* ** *THE NUCLEAR BOOGEY MAN* “Nuclear weapons, while terrifying in the abstract, are not an immediate strategic threat to Europe or the United States -- even from Iran. Biological weapons are potentially more lethal. Chemical weapons are far cheaper to produce. Within the United States, ordinary bombs and rogue airplanes have already caused plenty of damage.” - *Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum* ** *ILLEGAL SHOE NOW ON LEFT’S FOOT* “For years, Democrats were happy to sit back and watch Republicans tear their party apart over the issue of immigration, as happened with President George W. Bush's failed guest-worker proposals in 2006. But now it's Democrats who are getting burned. “Colorado was the scene Monday of a roiling debate over immigration when the Democratically controlled state Senate unexpectedly rejected a measure to allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at public universities. The bill's sponsor, State Sen. Chris Romer, extracted a promise from Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter to sign the legislation. He was certain he had the votes to pass it. But at the last minute five Democrats defected and voted with Republicans to defeat the bill.” - *Brendan Miniter of Political Diary, 4/7/09* ** *EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW* “We are firmly convinced the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the institution of civil marriage does not substantially further any important governmental objective. The legislature has excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification." - *Iowa Supreme Court in a ruling last week* ** *GAY MARRIAGE HERE TO STAY* “Vermont became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage, following Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa,” reported the Wall Street Journal yesterday. “The state legislature voted Tuesday to override Gov. Jim Douglas's veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry.” I know many of you don’t want to hear this, but you’re not going to put this genie back in the bottle. More and more courts will come to the same conclusion as the Iowa Supreme Court did last week; that same-sex marriage bans violate the constitutional rights of gay couples. Legalized gay marriages will continue to spread state by state. And younger voters don’t care about this issue anywhere near as much as older voters. That which doesn’t affect them doesn’t concern them. They don’t care if two gay guys across the street get “married” as long as it doesn’t affect their own marriage. And it doesn’t. So this is also a generational change which opponents can only slow down, not reverse. While many folks will continue very vocal opposition on this issue, it’s only a matter of time before gay marriages are as accepted and common-place as mixed-race marriages. For those of you who will continue to oppose allowing gays into the institution of marriage, remember this was all brought on by first allowing the government into the institution of marriage. Once government began bestowing public benefits to married couples, particularly through the tax code, this development became inevitable on equal protection grounds. Keep this precedent in mind as we continue allowing the Obama government to take over American businesses. Nothing good can possibly come from this. ** ** *HOW TO SUBSCRIBE* If you know someone who would like to receive Chuck’s *FREE* “News & Views” e-briefing delivered directly to their email box, just sign up by *clicking HERE* <http://www.citizenoutreach.com/> *Read more at www.MuthsTruths.com <http://www.muthstruths.com/>* ** *Send replies & comments to this list and **[email protected]*<[email protected]> *Have you decided on which T-Party you're going to?* **Tell us how it went and we'll pass it on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are welcome to join the [email protected] * Rich Martin * ** *.* --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "APFN" group.
