March on Olympia and Spokane Saturday June 27! Steve Beren, May 4, 2009 I strongly endorse the Tea Party protest rallies scheduled for Olympia and Spokane on Saturday June 27, and the other Independence Week Tea Party events scheduled across the nation throughout the week leading up to Saturday July 4.
The Tea Party participants are energized, enthusiastic, serious, and diverse. Many are relatively young. I am very confident about this new, but growing, movement against the Obama economic agenda. Success is what I expect because of this movement's persistence, senssibility, and vitality. The focus is clear: repeal the pork, no second stimulus, no more bailouts, cut taxes, cut spending, hold congress and the president accountable. The movement is educating and influencing the public, not just speaking to the conservative choir. It is an ad hoc coalition not only of Republicans, but of libertarians, independents, unaffiliated conservatives, and even disaffected and disappointed Democrats. What we do now will make a difference in the 2010 and 2012 elections. Like Ronald Reagan, I am an "optimism conservative" and I believe that America's best days are yet to come. That means our best economic situation is yet to come; our best national security situation is yet to come; and our best president is yet to come. I have great confidence in this nation, which has been blessed by God. We have been in battles before, but we've always emerged victorious. We won indepdence from colonial Britain; destroyed the system of slavery; defeated German nazism, Japanese imperialism, Italian fascisum, and Soviet communism. I believe in the strength of the American people, in the power and relevance and vitality of our constitution, our history, our patriotism, our military, our declaration of independence, our free market system, our liberty, our political freedom. We will overcome our current challenges - whether economic disruption or Islamic fascist terrorism - and our best days are still ahead of us.
