Interesting Items <http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/interesting-items> 6/01 -
Howdy all, a few Interesting Items for your information. Enjoy -
In this issue:
1. Dealerships
2. Sotomayor
3. Estrada
4. Forests
5. Behavior Modification
6. CA Supremes
7. Out of Money
8. Panthers

1. Dealerships. The initial round of dealership closings announced by
Chrysler <http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/chrysler> has been questioned by
both the dealers targeted and outside observers. Many of them were highly
successful businesses and Chrysler did not give any indication how the
closing decisions were arrived at. As the week progressed, it became
apparent that the closed dealerships were put on the list based on their
political leanings rather than their business acumen. The vast majority of
closed dealerships gave political donations to Republican candidates for
office over the years. The blogs have been researching the selection
criteria. Chrysler would say little except that they were under extreme
pressure from the White House to close those specific dealerships. As it
turns out, Obama’s Car Czar, Rattner is married to Maureen White, former
Hillary Campaign and National Finance Chairman for the Democrat party. The
decision to choose winners and losers based upon political leanings is the
worst form of fascism, and one that will rebound very badly upon the Obama
WH. Expect the wronged dealerships to take their complaints to court and
expect some interesting things to come out of discovery during those court
cases. This one is not over and it has the potential to blow up in the
faces of the Obama administration and the democrats involved.
 ------------------------------
2. Sotomayor. President Teleprompter nominated a federal judge from New
York, Sonia Sotomayor to replace retiring SCOTUS Justice David Suter.
Sotomayor is the ultimate diversity pick – a nasty, Latino veteran of the
gender and race wars. She is a long time member of La Raza Unida (The Race,
United). She was playing the race and gender cards while in college 35
years ago. Her reputation is for gratuitous nastiness to co-workers, those
that testify in front of her, and other lawyers. There is video of her
saying that the district courts are the place policy is made. She has been
quoted saying that a wise Latina woman will come up with a better decision
as a judge than a white male. She is a bigot, a racist, and singularly
unqualified to sit on the SCOTUS <http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/scotus>. I
expect she will be confirmed with over 70 votes in the senate.
 ------------------------------
3. Estrada. Contrast the kid-glove treatment of Sotomayor with what senate
democrats <http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/senate> and their supporters in the
race-baiting community did to Bush Court of Appeals nominee Miguel Estrada
from 2001 - 2003. Estrada was a Honduran émigré with another “compelling
personal story” who was correctly seen by the left as a possible Bush
nominee for the SCOTUS. They undertook a program to destroy him personally
and slow-rolled his nomination for years until he decided he needed a real
job and withdrew his name from consideration in Sept 2003. The same left
that is now celebrating Sotomayor as an affirmative action selection
excoriated Estrada on the same grounds. The difference is that Estrada
would have written his opinions based upon the law as written rather than
choosing winners and losers based upon skin color, political views, or
station in life like Sotomayor is expected to do.
 ------------------------------
4. Forests. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack instituted a one-year moratorium
on the construction of new roads and new logging lease sales in the 49
million acres of national forests. The announcement was made last
Thursday<http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/thursday-28-may-2009>and marks
a return to the last-minute Clinton executive order mandating
roadless forests. Any new road or logging lease must be individually
approved by the Secretary himself. Vilsack also claims the authority to
halt already approved, ongoing logging and road construction. Expect the
Obama administration to continue down the road to environmental nirvana,
turning the national forests into defacto wilderness areas and marijuana
farms nationwide. The newly instituted ban will shut down four logging
sales in the Tongass scheduled for this summer, along with 35 miles of new
logging roads. It is long past time for the various state governors to take
back control of the lands within their state borders. And this is as good
as any place to begin. ADN, Fri.

5. Behavior Modification. Change you can believe in ramped up nicely last
week with the release of the video of a question and answer session with
former Illinois congress critter and current Transportation Secretary Ray
LaHood telling at the National Press Club on May 21. In the session, LaHood
was asked about the administration’s livability initiative – essentially a
way to force Americans out of their vehicles, out of the suburbs, onto mass
transit, and back into the cities in high rises. The technique will be the
use of restrictive road construction designs intended to “calm” traffic
movement rather than move large numbers of vehicles quickly. Bicycles and
walking are prominent parts of the plan. LaHood admitted that the new
policies are intended to coerce Americans out of their vehicles. I would
also expect an effort to force SUVs and light trucks off the road and force
us all into the ratmobiles to be built by Government and Obama Motors and
the UAW. Good luck with that. Up here in
Anchorage<http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/anchorage>,
we have had the green fans of Portland busily mucking around with road
design, bike trails, and zoning rules, much to the detriment of smooth,
quick flow of local traffic. The end result has been a significant decrease
in construction (basic economics – when things get more expensive, you get
less of it), significant increase in costs of home ownership and local
taxes. Planned economies and planned cities don’t work. They are really,
really expensive and place severe limits on overall liberty and property
rights. If there is any behavior to be modified, it is going to be the
behavior of the bozos we elected last November. One way or another; sooner
or later, it is going to happen.
 ------------------------------
6. CA Supremes. By the same 6:1 majority that created the right of men and
women to marry those of the same sex, the California Supreme
Court<http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/california>ruled last week that
Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that amended the
California state constitution to define marriage as a union between one man
and one woman was constitutional. But they allowed the 18,000 or so same
sex weddings that took place over the last year to stand, putting these
couples in legal limbo. As expected, the gay rights crowd went nuts and
promised to take the case to the SCOTUS to rehear. The gay rights crowd
also continues with their ongoing pogrom against Christians, Mormons and
anyone they have discovered supporting the passage of Prop 8 last year.
This is not over. It will continue to get uglier, as the gay rights crowd
and their supporters in the democrat controlled legislative bodies and
courts push their agenda. This is about power and control, and the brutal
suppression of opposition speech and thought.
 ------------------------------
7. Out of Money. A week ago last Saturday, President Teleprompter sat down
with a CSPAN reporter and told him that we (the US government) are out of
money. He then goes on to make excuses for his and congress’ outrageous
spending in the short term to save the financial system and the auto
manufacturers. He then goes on to say that there are long term problems
caused by Medicaid and Medicare being out of money. Question for The One:
If we are out of money, why in God’s name do we keep on spending it?
 ------------------------------
8. Panthers. Eric Holder’s “unpoliticized” Department of (In)Justice
dropped charges against a pair of new Black Panther members that were
convicted in a summary judgment of voter intimidation. The New Black
Panther Party was one of the first formal supporters of the Obama campaign,
so this action is not all that unexpected. What is interesting is that the
voter intimidation was filmed in its entirety in front of a voting precinct
somewhere in Philly. The pair of goons was attired in their fatigues,
wielding nightsticks, and threatening anyone they thought who was not going
to be voting for their boy, Barack Hussein
Obama<http://webmailb.juno.com/tags/barack-hussein-obama>.
The video was all over the web after the election and I believe it can still
be found on You Tube. Career lawyers in the Justice Department brought
charges of voter intimidation against these thugs and won a summary judgment
as they failed to respond to the charges in court. The case was proceeding
to sentencing phase when Holder’s political appointees intervened and got
the charges dropped. Obama and his minions are quickly installing a
thugocracy, where intimidation, threats and pressure will be used to
continue their infestation of political office as long as we the voters let
them get away with it. Things are well on their way to a Hobbsean time here
in the US – nasty, brutish and short. Hot Air, Sat.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better
than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not
your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May
your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our
countrymen."
- Samuel Adams, speech at the Philadelphia
  State House, August 1, 1776.
