*ABC employees donated heavily to Obama
By Jennifer Harper, Washington Times*

As indignation turned to outrage Thursday among critics of an ABC News
prime-time special on President Obama's health care policy, The Washington
Times has learned that ABC employees gave 80 times as much money to Mr.
Obama's 2008 campaign for president than to his rival's. According to an
analysis of campaign donations by the Center for Responsive Politics,
conducted at The Times' request, ABC employees in several divisions donated
$124,421 to the Obama campaign, compared with $1,550 to the presidential
campaign of Sen. John McCain. The 60-minute ABC program, to air live from
the White House on Wednesday, is sparking hardball politics in other ways.
Grass-roots boycotts, Republican outcry and a study citing media bias are
all part of the mix. A study released Thursday by the Business & Media
Institute (BMI) found that since Inauguration Day, ABC has aired news
stories with positive reviews of Mr. Obama's health care policy 55 times,
compared with 18 times when the network highlighted negative reviews.

No surprise to see ABC give platform to Obama — but not to his critics
By Ron Smith, Baltimore Sun*

What former CBS news correspondent Bernard Goldberg identified in the title
of his recent book, A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story
of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media, has not
cooled in the slightest. Not since John Fitzgerald Kennedy wowed the press
with his looks and charm and the elegance of his wife, Jackie, has a
president been so widely idolized by those members of the Fourth Estate who
are supposed to report with some objectivity on presidential policies and
promises. This is not a healthy thing. We are not some backward nation
worshiping a Dear Leader - are we? Well, are we? There's much buzz this week
about the decision of ABC News to air a special edition of its World News
program June 24 from the White House. Charlie Gibson will anchor the news
from the Blue Room in a program described by the network as a special town
hall meeting on health care. Republicans (remember them?) are very upset
about this, maybe because their views on health care reform (whatever they
might be) are being left out of this telecast. They think having the
president's views amplified on television without opposition is pretty
chilling.

*In Iran protest, online world is watching, acting
CNN.com*

In Chicago in 1968, anti-war protesters at the Democratic National
Convention chanted "The Whole World Is Watching." They were talking about
television cameras that showed police beatings on the evening news. More
than 40 years later, with a massive movement aimed at reversing election
results and possibly even toppling a regime in Iran, online networking is
instantly sharing protesters' actions. And the whole world is watching."That
wasn't true in Chicago," Clay Shirky, a writer, consultant and New York
University instructor who focuses on the social impact of the Internet, said
of the slogan. "Now, it's true." The watching isn't the end of the story --
and may not even end up being its most important piece -- according to
Shirky. "Since we don't know how this ends, the lessons are all provisional
at the moment," he said. "But it seems to me that the biggest potential
difference right now is not just that the whole world is watching, but that
people from outside -- civilians from outside -- Iran are trying to actually
affect the outcome."

*Obama takes on Fox News, loses
By Jeff Bercovici, Daily Finance*

When is Barack Obama going to learn that presidents shouldn't play press
critic? It didn't work for Richard Nixon. It didn't work for Bill Clinton or
George W. Bush. It didn't help John McCain win the White House, and it won't
help Obama, who vented his frustration with Fox News during an interview on
CNBC yesterday. "I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to
attacking my administration," Obama told John Harwood, who had asked him how
he felt about coverage of his administration. "That's a pretty big
megaphone. You'd be hard-pressed if you watched the entire day to find a
positive story about me on that front." Fox News (which Obama pettishly
declined to name) is indeed a big megaphone -- big and getting bigger. And
that's no accident. As I've written before, Fox is big because it speaks to
an audience that doesn't feel its concerns represented elsewhere on TV (and,
yes, because Roger Ailes is a pro at producing slick, loud, button-pressing
programming in general). For Obama to turn his back on that audience because
he doesn't feel like he gets a fair shake from Fox would be a mistake. He
all but acknowledged that himself during the campaign, when he finally
granted an interview to Bill O'Reilly after being hounded for months.
