*We don’t work for government. Government works for us. We just need to
remind them of that from time to time. *

*Texas** Legislature reconvenes this week in Austin*
[image: 1]
They’re Baaaaack!

Texas legislators have been called back to Austin by Gov. Rick Perry to
finish business. Five agencies were not “approved” for continuation because
their sunset legislation did not make it through the process during the
regular session. So, the legislature reconvened July 1 for what many
anticipate will be a short session to pass those bills.

As of now, Voter I.D. and other controversial bills aren’t on the agenda.
But the Governor can add to the call during session. We will keep you posted
on what happens!

*Join us as we Take Back America!*
[image: 2]**
The July 4 “Take Back America” Tea Party in Austin promises to be a huge
event, and we hope you’ll join your fellow patriots from 2 – 4 p.m. on the
grounds of the Texas State Capitol.

At the Tea Party, speakers will be sending a message to Washington, D.C. to
*R*educe spending, *R*educe taxes, *R*educe the size of government and
*R*e-read
the Constitution. We have more than 30 conservative speakers lined up who
will talk about the major threats to our freedom and prosperity and will
teach us how to make a difference and Take Back America!

Please visit our Tea Party website,
www.austinreteaparty.com<http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/KWJYKULOPY/NEGZKULOSJ/3588814011>for
more details. “Take Back America” t-shirts can also be purchased on
the
website. To view a listing of speakers, check here: Austin July 4th Tea
Party

.

In addition to the Austin tea party July 4th, AFP State Director Peggy
Venable will be in Dallas speaking at the Independence Day celebration at
Southfork Ranch.
You don’t want to miss these two exciting events!

*Feeling the heat? U.S. House votes to send electricity bills skyrocketing*

While cap-and-trade passed the House last week, it's a testament to the
power of free market activists that it was a difficult, down-to-the-wire,
tough fight. This bill was Speaker Pelosi's top priority, and it was
supposed to sail through the House. Instead, it barely made it across the
finish line. It took all the efforts of the White House to push it through
when the bill stalled a couple of days ago.

[image: 4]We should thank the good Texas congressional members who voted
against this cap and tax bill. They are: *Cong. Joe Barton, Kevin Brady,
Mike Burgess, John Carter, Michael Conaway, John Culberson, Chet Edwards, Louis
Gohmert, Kay Granger, Ralph Hall, Jeb Hensarling, Sam Johnson, Ken Marchant,
Michael McCaul, Solomon Ortiz, Ron Paul, Ted Poe, Ciro Rodriquez, Pete
Sessions, Lamar Smith and Mac Thornberry. *(Democrats are italicized)**

The Waxman-Markey bill will put an extra tax on everything that is
transported, manufactured, or refined, including gasoline. The bill will
send utility bills skyrocketing! It will cost Texans jobs, and it singles us
out more than any other states for punishment. Our friends at the Texas
Public Policy Foundation produced a must-read for Texans: Click here to read
it<http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/KWJYKULOPY/CZRGKULOSO/3588814011>.

*Hero of the Week…*

It looks like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suppressed a report
criticizes widely-held beliefs about global warming. Alan Carlin is a senior
economist at the EPA and has been there for 38 years. He isn’t the typical
government “go along to get along” bureaucrat. He has boldly spoken out on
global climate change, and he doesn’t think the Obama Administration is
going to improve the environment through cap-and-trade.

Carlin has a Ph.D. in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
and a B.S. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology. Click
here<http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/KWJYKULOPY/CZFZKULOSP/3588814011>to
see his website and some of his writings on so-called “man-made”
global
warming.

Unfortunately, instead of listening to their senior economist, the EPA is
working to silence him. Read Mark Tapscott’s story on this in the Washington
Examiner
here.<http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/KWJYKULOPY/FRCIKULOSQ/3588814011>

*Friendswood Citizens fight City Hall – literally! *

AFP supports the “Friendswood Five” residents opposing the city’s plan to
issue debt and buy park land outside the counties the city straddles. The
Attorney General and state law doesn’t allow cities to purchase land outside
the counties where they are located. The Friendswood City Charter prohibits
issuing debt without voter approval, but voters rejected a $9 million bond
initiative recently. Now city leaders want to issue $11 million in
certificates of obligation without voter approval, and have filed action to
force voters who reject their action to post a $1 million bond to silence
taxpayers. But the Friendswood Five won’t be They outlined their objections
in court documents filed Monday in a Travis County court. Read the *Galveston

*Retiring Superintendent gets almost a quarter million dollars *

[image: 5]Outgoing Austin ISD Superintendent Pat Forgione got a big fat
check this week – for doing nothing. He’d accumulated a whopping 172
vacation days!

According to the *Austin American-Statesman*, Forgione’s contract does not
allow unused sick days and personal days to be carried over, and they are
not compensated. So why the pay-olla??? Read it all
here.<http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/KWJYKULOPY/OIGLKULOST/3588814011>

AISD has a $22 million budget shortfall, but is sending the former
superintendent off with almost a quarter million dollars? The school board
should be recalled for this totally irresponsible and outrageous action!

*Question:* If the contract said Forgione could not carry over unused time,
how could he accumulate 172 vacation days, and then is this payout legal?

Forgione is going to be making $8,000-plus a month from this payout in
addition to his new job salary. Isn't that double-dipping?

People say we don't spend enough on education – in reality, we spend too
much on education overhead and not enough on teachers and classroom
instruction.

AISD school board members should be ashamed. That money could hire five
teachers!!! It could be used to help students in the classroom. AISD School
Board President *Mark Williams* and board members *Vincent M. Torres*, *Lori
Moya*, *Cheryl Bradley*, *Sam Guzman*, *Christine Brister*, *Robert
Schneider*, *Annette LoVoi* and *Karen Dulaney Smith* should explain this
irresponsible act. Weren't they watching his leave time? Should he be paying
for leave time not accumulated this year? Explain this to the taxpaying
public, please!
