I have an original copy of the Unites States
Constitution showing the original 13th amendment. It is included,
along with Washington's Farewell Address, and the Declaration of
Independence in a small leather bound book. It does not have a
copyright, but shows that it was published by Benj. B. Russell, Boston,
515 Washington Street.
From what little research I have done, I
think this is one of the original government documents published
gratuitously by Benjamin Russell (1761-1845). Since the book shows the
12th Amendment, it must be older than 1804.
I am happy to provide photographs of the
book, and pages, if you have any interest in seeing them.
I am interested in what the book (once
verified as authentic, of course) might be worth.
As written, the 13th amendment reads:
"If any citizen of the United States shall
accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honor, or
shall without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present,
pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor,
king, prince, or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen
of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of
trust or profit under them, or either of them."
Please feel free to contact me by return
e-mail, if you have any interest in this matter.
Thanks.
