Dear Environment America supporter,

I want to let you know about a new way that you and your friends can make a difference on the oil disaster still unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico.

Watch this short video to find out about an effort we're calling Gumbo for the Gulf.

We know now that this is the largest spill in U.S. history, with at least 18 million gallons of oil released into the ocean so far. The environment is suffering and families in the Gulf are hurting, too. Fishermen have lost their livelihoods, and coastal communities are losing hope. They need help, and they want their voices heard. Gumbo for the Gulf is a way for you to respond.

Learn about Gumbo for the Gulf from this video with Heather Emmert, our field organizer in Louisiana.

Here's how Gumbo for the Gulf works: You invite some friends over for dinner during the week of June 14th. We'll provide everything you need -- including a world-class Gumbo recipe from New Orleans chef Susan Spicer. Ask your friends to chip in with a contribution to respond to the tragedy in the Gulf -- the money you and your friends raise that night will go to aid families in the Gulf and to continue our work to make sure a disaster like this never happens again.

Last week, our campaign marked a significant advance as President Obama cancelled leases for new drilling off the coast of Virginia and postponed other new drilling for six months. For the thousands of you who signed our petition, or called the White House, I think our message is starting to get through. But if we want to permanently protect our coasts, we need to keep pressing our case.

Hosting a Gumbo for the Gulf dinner is a great way to help. I hope you'll be able to take part!

And thanks, as always, for making it all possible.
