posturing, and behind-the-scenes deal-making that you would ever hope to find

Clancy novel.
But this drama is real, and it is dangerous!

The scene in Congress today is all too reminiscent of the passage of
ObamaCare under
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Backroom deals, deception, manipulation of facts; name calling; political
posturing –
all to help President Barrack Obama add another piece of “signature
legislation” to his
presidential legacy.
Here is how the drama is unfolding:
Senator Reid has planned the first “cloture” vote on the proposed gun
control
legislation for tomorrow.
A dozen or more Senate Republicans are threatening to filibuster the “gun
control”
vote.
Senator Reid says he has enough votes to invoke “cloture” and override a
filibuster.
Two leading senators, Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey announced today that
they’ve reached
a bipartisan “compromise” on the background check legislation, which is a key
part of the
bill being hotly debated in the Senate. The fate of that compromise has yet to
be
determined.
But there’s a major problem. We don’t need ANOTHER background check law!
On the books
right now is a federal law created under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention
Act.
Under the Brady law, the National Instant Criminal Background Check
System mandates
that licensed gun sellers check with the FBI database before making a sale.
++This unnecessary law is the proverbial camel’s nose in the tent for
outright federal
control of gun ownership in America!
These proposed “expanded” background checks place the government squarely
in the
middle of EVERY gun purchase, including private transactions. You can’t even
hand your
firearm to a friend at a shooting range without breaking the law!
Under Harry Reid’s proposed new system, private sellers and buyers would
be required
to meet in person with a licensed dealer. There, the dealer would check the
buyer against
the federal database.
As with dealer purchases, a record of the sale would be retained by the
licensed
dealer and the dealer would charge a fee for the recording service.
Many opponents of the bill believe it will ultimately result in the
universal
registration of all firearms and gun owners. At a minimum, it will lead to
expanded
monitoring by the ATF which will place citizens at an increased risk of
searches and
seizures.
The fact is, your Second Amendment rights are squarely in the crosshairs
of
gun-grabbing liberal lawmakers!
Liberty Counsel Action is taking action! Early Thursday morning, we are

“Stand Your Ground on the Second Amendment” petitions to Senate leaders ahead
of the final
Senate debate and vote.
Coupled with that initiative, Dot, today, I am calling on you to consider

While Harry Reid has tried to assure American citizens that proposed gun
control
measures in the Senate bill will not include a national registry of gun owners,
the National
Rifle Association, (NRA), the Heritage Foundation, and even the American Civil
Liberties
Union (ACLU) have all expressed concerns that the bill’s language opens the
door for the
creation and/or expansion of Big Brother’s database of gun owners and the
number and kinds
of guns they own.
