no step-by-step documentation to run tutorial application

The tutorial doesn't include a simple step-by-step description for a newbie to
run the application.
Also, the high level documentation is somewhat vague in what the user is
supposed to do after downloading the software from SVN archive or getting the
binary distribution.
I have got a patch to address these issues. Submitting this issue to track the
patch.
