If/when the Apollo renewal comes through one of the primary aims is for the next-gen of Apollo to be web-based. Assuming funding, then an initial web-based version would first become available about a year from now.

Hi Daniel,

Apollo is a stand alone Java application, however it can be
deployed from the web through the use of Java Web Start. WS
will take care of deploying Apollo to the user's computer
(great way to provide custom Apollo setups - used in the
Community Annotation System which tied Apollo and GBrowse
together through a Chado backend).

Cheers,
Ed

We (TAIR) also use Apollo heavily for our genome annotation efforts, despite the fact that our version has been branched (by us) and is significantly
behind the main code base.
