Hello, and thanks again for replying so quickly to all of my e-mails.

It turns out the Toodledo does ³not² retain the tasks on the iPhone after
being purged from the website, just as you suspected. I really don¹t want to
subscribe to a yearly account just to keep my data from being deleted,
especially since this is not for a business and the expense is not
justified. I also don¹t think your iCal sync will work for me for the
following reason:

I like to keep a number of lists to keep track of certain things, like a
reading list. For example, I enter all of the books I want to read, along
with author name and other info. Sometimes it might be one or two years
before I read a book on the list (or longer‹some books I haven¹t read yet in
over 5 years!). Naturally, I want those to stay. But I also want the ones
that I have read (and marked ³completed²) to stay as well, as a history of
my reading activity. I can look back at any time and see ³who wrote that
book² or ³when did I read that² or ³what was the title of that book², etc.
The reading list is just one example of this type of list I use. Others
include a movie list, a live theater list, music (CD) wish list, etc.

It is not important to me that the completed items remain on the Toodledo
web site and continue to sync. I would be happy with them remaining on my
iPhone but not appearing on the web site any longer. So, with my more
complete description, I¹d like to suggest yet another feature request.

Would it be possible to create an ³archived² list? I envision this to work
like this: You can set the amount of time before a completed task should be
archived. This would naturally be just a bit shorter than the time that you
have set on the Toodledo web site. When the item is archived, it is moved to
a secondary database. The first database continues to sync with the web site
as usual, but the archive database does not sync with the web site. Both
lists can show up intermingled, however, but are visually distinct by color,
or some other visual indicator. The archived database should still be able
to be edited, but since it¹s only completed tasks, perhaps it should not be
too easy to edit, since that¹s not the main purpose of retaining them. A
search would search both the main database and the archive database (or
there could be a checkbox to indicate whether or not to search the archive
database too) and results from both show up together. In other words, the
user shouldn¹t have to really care that it¹s two databases except to know
that anything in the archive database is persistent.

The user might not want this behavior for every list, so maybe there could
be a preference to only archive completed tasks based on a folder, or tag,
or some other criteria.

You could even add a new interface and perhaps new fields to accommodate
this new type of list. A reading list type could include fields for author,
ISBN, where you saw it, perhaps include links to amazon.com or something
like that, a field for comments about the book. A movie list could have the
title, length, names of stars, director, etc. You get the idea.

The best solution would be if you could implement this ³archive² database,
but if Toodledo could also change their API so that the application could
know the difference of whether a task was deleted by the user or if it was
automatically purged. That way your app could know whether to delete or
archive the task locally.

Thanks again for listening!

Ken
