I'm not an expert and I'll let someone else confirm, but it would appear as if jailbroken phones can't have push notifications in any application. Could you make the test with some other free application such as IM+ ? The lite version has push notifications and works just fine for me. You sometimes get a delay of a few minutes in the notifications, but the thing works.
