My phone is jail broken, thus I have an option that shows battery
percent in the top status bar.  It definitely isn't the wifi on its
own.  As I mentioned, all I had to do was uninstall Todo Lite, and the
problem went away (no change in wifi on or off).  I also think I had
sync on start up turned off as well, but I no longer have it installed
to be sure.

It is also worth noting that my phone actually heated up, warm to the
touch, even when sitting on the counter for a couple hours.  I would
love to try it again, if I just knew how to prevent this battery
problem.
