I used to have this problem, and it was because I was synching my iCal with 
more than just ToDo.

To fix the problem, all I had to do was stop syncing my iCal tasks with 
MobileMe.  I still sync events.
This works fine for me as I use MobileMe just to share my event calendar, and 
the tasks are just for me.  But I guess for others this may not be a very 
satisfying solution.
