This must be a FAQ by now. If you use the quick add button then there is no need to set the task type (but you can still edit all parameters with teh blue arrow to the right of the task name). This is how I enter all my tasks. i agree things could be streamlined a bit, the standard add task button seems basically redundant to me, but it's not actually harmful.
