Set your sort order to "Date, Priority" and today's items will appear
on top of the list (unless you have overdue items, that is), followed
by tomorrow's, this week's, . . ., and eventually those with no date.
It's easy to select a bunch of tasks and reschedule them for
"Tomorrow" or "Next week" or "no date". That way they stay out of
your way until you want to look at them.

If you wish, you can set your default priority for tasks to the
highest, so they are closer to the top of today's items until you
decide what to do with them.
