To Guthion Stakeholders: Most of you have heard by now that Bayer CropScience has divested GUTHION (azinphos-methyl) to Makhteshim (MANA). BCS is providing the following information to answer many of the questions that may come to mind:
1. MANA purchased Guthion in Europe several years ago. The recent divestiture includes North and South America; 2. BCS is selling all inventory to MANA. There will be no co-marketing; 3. Existing BCS-labeled product owned by distribution and retail channels of trade can still, and should be, sold by the channel to growers as before; 4. All responsibilities for any new GUTHION/AZM will be the responsibility of MANA; 5. BCS will no longer promote GUTHION in advertising or other forms of communication. If other questions do come up, please ask. You know that it was only through your hard work and effective actions that GUTHION remained available. EPA had intended to cancel the product in July 1999. It is impressive that through your efforts the needed uses have been maintained. For example, the apple use has been extended with the opportunity for re-review in 2012.
