Me too; same setup and tons of IIe sw. I have a friend with a laser-driven CNC setup. If someone has a template for the modified 575 board CC back plate, he can use it to make aluminum ones that are a perfect fit.
I believe one of the Mac specialty shops made something like it, but they stopped doing it some time ago. Bruce, where did you order the crystal from? Do you recall?
