Night Owl was the replacement battery for the ROM 01--lithium battery with leads, the end of the leads wrapped into a spring--clip out the old battery, slip the cut end into the spring, and you have a new battery for the GS. (Why Apple ever designed a soldered-on battery in the 1st place is beyond me--at least they fixed that with the Rom 03.)
