Disks fail. Instead of throwing one in the trash, use it as a template to notch all of
your disks. I'm sure if I counted all the 5.25 disks around here, I would have well
over 1000, closer to two, and at least 4 of them have no disk media in them. By the
way, I am wrong on the need for the hole on an Apple or taking the media out. Just
the notch will do. If your using a TRS-Model 4, which came out with the pins pulled,
really smart, on the cables, it forced the owner to have to take it back to Radio
Shack when the disk drive fails. And all disk drives WILL fail at some time, some
place, and some where. Thus, I have back ups of backups around here and have an
uncountable horde of Apple IIe drives in my computer storage building.

Another interesting note, is that older IBM drives, had two pins turned on the cable
to make it an automatic A drive read. Thus, if I wanted to use it for my Model 4P, I
had to switch those two little pins back the right way. Anything for a buck in the
old days of computers. I have a portable Dos machine out there that ways 40 lbs. A
Model 4P, when folded up, looks more like a sewing machine than it does a computer
