Are you sure about that? ;-) I was using a IIe and AppleWorks for a semester or two in university (late '97, maybe early '98). It worked beautifully since my university offered Unix shell accounts with access to all the necessary internet clients, plus goodies like Maple, LaTeX, etc.. Yeah, I know the year makes it less impressive, but ...
