Just a note. Calling "ROM" to a computer emulator's disk or tape image is a
common mistake created after the boom of the MAME arcade emulator. Not all image
files for emulators are ROMs. MAME (like other arcade and console emulators)
runs the software from "ROM images" - they are called so because they are images
of the contents of one or more ROM chips. Their emulated machines stored the
software in ROM chips. On the other hand, most computer emulators (including
Apple II ones) use what is called "disk images" - images of disks, either 5.25"
or 3.5" floppys, or, in some cases, even hard drives. The emulators of simpler
machines which used cassette tape as their storage device (such the ZX Spectrum
or the Amstrad CPC464) use "tape images" instead.

Of course, almost all computer emulators also use ROM images of the emulated
computer's system ROM. But as these system ROM images ussually come with the
emulator, users don't have to worry about them.
